For a lot of us, making resolutions is a great way to start the year, but we struggle to actually stick to them past January. This is why at KINETIC, we’ve adopted goals in place of resolutions for 2017, to get where we want to go with our fitness and wellness.

Here’s why: While a resolution is a decision we make to change something in our behavior to see a positive change in ourselves, a goal is a more tangible and includes a date or timeline to see something to completion.

What does that mean for us? Instead of making a more generic resolution for our wellness, we’re setting actionable goals that we can achieve in 2017.

Some examples of goals in health and wellness include training to run a half marathon by the end of the year, making strategic changes to your daily diet or getting your cholesterol count down by your next physical examination.

Do you want to run a half marathon at the end of the year? Then a good goal is to be able to train for a 5K in the next two months, and then a 10K race a few months after that. An effective tool for training is to use a podcast like the C25K (Couch to 5K) Podcast. This nine week program gets even the most untried runners ready for a full, 30-minute run via interval training.

If you start small and cross the 5K finish line, there is nothing to stop you from getting to the 10K and then that half marathon by the end of the year.

Fitness Challenges, via apps like the KINETIC AppMap My RunNike Run Club and more are a great way to set goals in moderation. The KINETIC App for example, includes 21-day challenges. If you can get through one, why not add a 30-day challenge, and build from there? You’ll be amazed at how quickly you establish patterns and habits by just taking these small steps and adding them into your fitness routine.

If your goal is tied more to your overall wellness, you can start by setting a goal of keeping an accurate food journal for 30 days. Don’t feel like writing something down? There’s an app for that.

MyFitnessPal is one of the more agnostic calorie counter/diet tracker apps available on the marketplace. Rather than push you towards a specific diet, it works with you to simply track what you’re eating and works with targets that you set specific to your goals.

The best way to go about this is to sit down and think about what you really want to achieve in 2017 and create a plan to get there. It’s never too late to get started! Visit KINETIC at your Irvine Company Office Property to learn more about the KINETIC App and how KINETIC can help you achieve your fitness and wellness goals in 2017.
