Irvine Company's 71 South Wacker wins International Outstanding Building of the Year award for its industry-leading sustainability practices

CHICAGO, Ill. (August 1, 2017) – Irvine Company Office Properties’ 48-story office tower at 71 South Wacker Drive has been awarded The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Earth Awards in the local, regional and international categories  from Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).  The award is recognized as one of  the most prestigious awards for comprehensive and leading sustainability practices in the commercial real estate industry.   

71 South Wacker was recognized by BOMA International for its commitment to building-wide energy conservation practices, including its 17,000-square-foot green roof, an upward trending Energy Star rating, its targeted carbon footprint and energy consumption reduction of 20 percent over five years, and its evolving strategic sustainability plan.  The building is LEED Platinum® certified and has also received BOMA 360 Performance Program designation and IREM Sustainable Property certification.

The 48-story workplace community has evolved into one of Chicago’s greenest buildings.

Irvine Company owns and operates the largest number of energy-efficient, ENERGY-STAR certified office buildings in the nation.  Administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the ENERGY STAR program certified 102 Irvine Company buildings for superior energy efficiency. The company’s 23.4 million square feet of office space also ranked second nationally in terms of total certified square footage, according to published data by energystar.gov.
