Irvine Co.’s 71 South Wacker Drive wins Outstanding Building of the Year award for its industry-leading sustainability practices
CHICAGO, Ill. (Feb. XX, 2017) – Irvine Company Office Properties’ 48-story office tower at 71 South Wacker Drive has been awarded The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Earth Award from the Building Owners and Managers Association of Chicago (BOMA/Chicago), the most prestigious and comprehensive recognition of its kind in the commercial real estate industry, for its sustainability principles and practices.
71 South Wacker Drive was recognized for its commitment to building-wide energy conservation practices, including its LEED Platinum certification, upward trending Energy Star rating, target reduction of its Carbon footprint and energy consumption by 20 percent over the next five years, and its evolving Strategic Sustainability Plan.
As part of Irvine Co.’s ongoing commitment to proactive property revitalization and modernization, the Company announced today entry and lobby reinvestments at 71 South Wacker. The enhancements will include an engaging LED media wall and new plush seating and lighting in the main lobby, along with refreshed monument signage and landscaping.
These enhancements will join the building’s existing list of premier features and amenities, including its distinctive and elegant elliptical design, which provides customers with more expansive views than a conventional skyscraper allows and renowned public gardens. The three-story glass lobby meets the street with a linear grove of towering bamboo, creating a pleasing indoor sanctuary. Additional amenities are designed to foster a dynamic workplace community. They include a restaurant, retail bank, restaurant-quality customer cafeterias with catering service, full-service fitness and conference centers, and concierge services.
