If you’ve enjoyed a yoga class or two, you understand the power of clearing your mind. In February, those of us here at KINETIC have chosen to focus on how to add serenity to our daily lives in order to improve our overall wellness. Today, we’re starting with meditation.

Enter some of the coolest meditation apps available in to smartphone users today. These apps do more than tell you to visualize a white wall and focus. They provide you with training for proper breathing techniques, give you insight on how to truly focus your mind and block out all of the extra noise that keeps you from truly achieving mindfulness and more. Trust us, these apps truly can help!

To begin the journey towards finding more serenity and wellness in your life, we’ve compiled a list of our five favorite apps for meditation and clearing our minds (all of these are available for both Apple or Android devices):

  1. Sattva
This one is one of the most comprehensive apps available in the marketplace when it comes to meditation. Although it’s a little bit new to the scene of meditation via smartphone, it offers a wide variety of guided meditations by experts. It includes a timer, heart rate monitor, mood tracker, and even challenges and trophies to help you stay on track! With all of this, add to the fact that it’s free to download and what have you got to lose?
  2. Calm
It really is Calm, we promise. Positioned as a meditation app to help with sleep and stress reduction, Calm includes meditation guides, music and nature scenes. All of these are designed for users to get the most out of their relaxation. It also includes over 50 guided meditations for a wide range of goals that vary from sleep improvements to better focus. The app is free, but it does include premium content available for purchase.
  3. Headspace
Headspace promises you can learn to meditate with their app in just 10 minutes a day for 10 days. And it honestly works. By approaching meditation with more of a scientific bent while maintaining spiritual training, the creators of Headspace have an in-depth understanding of what meditation really can do to our brains. The result is an app that really helps users get into their headspace (pardon the pun) and focus. There is a free app and a premium app, with different purchase levels.
  4. Mindfullness
With a five-day guided introduction and additional guided sessions ranging from three to 30 minutes long, you aren’t left to find your own way to a calm state of meditation. This app includes reminders to stay focused on your meditation practice, statistics to help you see your progress, and more. Like Headspace, there is a free version and a paid version.
  5. Buddhify
This app offers a wide range of over 80 guided meditations to help you with goals ranging from improving your sleep, working through emotions, increasing your productivity and more. Promising no hidden or additional costs, this app is available for $4.99.

At KINETIC, we want you to be healthy and well in every aspect of your life, not just fitness. Taking a break during the workday to spend a few minutes with one of these apps or stepping out of the office to use one of our walking maps can make a significant difference in your productivity and overall wellness.
