Founder Friday with Shaun Savage of GoShare

December 04, 2016

From the emotional rollercoaster that is startup life to the books that inspire him to make tough decisions, The Vine San Diego’s Shaun Savage shares words of wisdom from his experience transforming the way his customers move with GoShare.

ELEVATE:
What’s the most challenging thing about being a founder?

SHAUN SAVAGE: Everyday is a new challenge. Managing time and prioritization are critical. The toughest part is the emotional rollercoaster. Some days are good some are bad, some weeks are good and some are bad. You have to be able to handle the emotional swings of a startup company and persevere during hard times.

ELEVATE: What’s the most rewarding?

SHAUN SAVAGE: The most rewarding thing is helping people. That can mean different things, helping people earn an income by providing a job, helping our customers get a delivery or a last minute move completed are two examples.

ELEVATE: How’s your experience been being based at The Vine San Diego? What made you choose The Vine vs. all of your options?

SHAUN SAVAGE: Very good experience so far. Being part of EvoNexus has definitely helped our business grow. The open layout and high energy work environment that the Vine provides are exceptional.

ELEVATE: What’s one piece of advice you would share with all budding entrepreneurs?

SHAUN SAVAGE: Be prepared to work your ass off and make tough decisions. Read “The Lean Startup” by Eric Reis and “How To Win Friends And Influence People” by Dale Carnegie.

ELEVATE: What’s one piece of advice would advise budding entrepreneurs to ignore?

SHAUN SAVAGE: My advice. Just kidding. Young entrepreneurs should ignore people who tell you it can’t be done. It you dream it you can probably find a way to build it.

ELEVATE: Anything you would do differently if you could go back and launch GoShare again?

SHAUN SAVAGE: I would focus on one platform at a time. We tried to build an iPhone app, Android app, and Web app at the same time. In retrospect we should’ve done one at a time.

ELEVATE: What do your customers LOVE about GoShare?

SHAUN SAVAGE: “Fast, reliable, extremely reasonable costs, fabulous drivers!” -Jenni H. (San Diego)

ELEVATE: What do YOU love about GoShare?

SHAUN SAVAGE: I love the random people that I’ve had the pleasure to meet. I have been given opportunities to work with a lot of passionate people including successful business owners, our fearless drivers, and random people in the community who needed our help. So many good memories in a short time.

ELEVATE: What do you look for in a stellar team member across functions?

SHAUN SAVAGE: I think passion and intelligence are the two most important things right now. In order to successfully join a startup you need those two things at the very least.

ELEVATE: Thank you so much for your insight Shaun! We like to end with a window into how our founders get work done. What are the 3 productivity tools that you personally cannot live without?

SHAUN SAVAGE:

  1. iPhone
  2. Macbook
  3. Gmail
