71 S Wacker was once considered a part of Chicago’s storied Financial District, a place where prestigious banks and trading firms held court. Today, its location on Wacker Drive has evolved into a fast-growing hub for thriving industries and game-changers. And this is where Slack —a layer of the business technology stack that brings together people, data, and applications  has set up shop, so they can be in the heart of this developing ecosystem that invites and encourages innovation and technology.

Picking the right location is a crucial and strategic aspect of Slack’s overall business model. Joining San Francisco, New York and Denver, Chicago just became Slack’s fourth US location. In addition, Slack has already established its international presence in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Japan, and India.

Cristian Viveros, the Senior Workplace Coordinator at Slack

In a recent conversation with Cristian Viveros, the Chicago office’s Senior Workplace Coordinator, she explained, “Slack’s top priorities when scouting Chicago locations were to be in close proximity to the city’s largest companies, aligning with our company’s values by choosing a building committed to sustainability, being in a location surrounded by restaurants, hotels and bars for our visiting clients and staff, and having easy access to public transportation.”

Cristian and the Slack staff wasted no time getting settled in their offices, which already reflect the company’s culture — plenty of snacks stocked in the sleek, modern kitchen, conference rooms with inspiring views, collaborative seating with an open space design and a comfortable Mother’s Room. According to Cristian, “While the office itself has everything we need, our employees are really enjoying the amenities at the building!”

Slack’s company values are rooted in being smart, hardworking, humble and collaborative. What that means is: people come first. Cristian commented, “I love how many lounge spaces there are in the building…collaborating and connecting with others is a core part of what Slack is and does.”

Whether it’s having a friendly exchange every morning with the 71 S Wacker security team, or trying a local craft beer at The Taproom in The Exchange, the way Slack operates fits right in with the Irvine Company Chicago experience.
