Whatever you’re celebrating on February 14, here at KINETIC we want you to have a great workout. We’re all for togetherness whether at the gym, working out or meal planning, and there’s no better day of the year to grab a workout buddy and burn some calories than Valentine’s Day!
Studies have shown that people who work out with a partner they are comfortable with are more energetic and happier than those who work out alone. The encouragement factor has a lot to do with this. You’re fighting a battle – whether in the gym, on a hike or biking up a hill. The positive reinforcement of facing and completing a challenge together makes it that much sweeter when you’re done!
In fact, it’s been proven that working out together can double your performance. It’s a great reason to go hit the pavement for a walk or pick up some weights at the gym, right? That somewhat relaxing walk you planned to take during the workday picks up the pace and becomes more fun with good company. Not to mention that if you’re walking with weight loss in mind, you’re more likely to meet your goals with social support.
For those of you new to the idea of buddy workouts, here are some great ideas for you:
- If you both have access to the KINETIC at your Irvine Company Office Property, or a regular gym, here is a fantastic collection of exercises you can do together. You’ll automatically have someone to spot you when you’re lifting, help you with technique and cheer you on.
- Taking a walk at work during lunch with a specific route in mind or hitting the hiking trails on the weekend with someone to keep you company, share the weight of the backpack (stocked with snacks and plenty of water!) and just enjoy the scenery makes time go by faster and burns more calories.
- If you’re a runner looking to up your daily mile count, visit any local running store in your area. Typically they have groups that host daily runs of up to 6 miles where you can help motivate others and push yourself at the same time.
- If you’re looking for a game to boost your daily cardio, try joining the pickup basketball game at your neighborhood court, office sport court, or at the gym.
When you workout together, everyone comes away with feelings of synchronicity, cooperative spirit and shared passion. So what’s stopping you?
